Out-of-School Service Scholarship
2025 Scholarship Information
SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION
An Out-of-School program is an extension of the regular school day designed to offer enrichment programs for students and to meet the Afterschool needs of working parents. Major benefits of an Afterschool Program are a positive, supportive environment for Afterschool enrichment activities that support and enhance a student’s learning.
Scholarships will be awarded for 2025 for Fall courses: nine $1,000 scholarships and two Honorarium Scholarships for $1,500 each. Equity amongst the three ACEA board regions will be sought. However, the excellence of applicants will take priority over region location.
The award(s) will be given based on availability of funds. Funds will be dispersed through checks written to the college or university where the recipient receiving the scholarship is confirmed as enrolled for Fall 2025 semester. Dispensation of the allocation is not predetermined. However, the scholarship committee recommends the scholarship is used for tuition, books, room and board, etc.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be a graduating senior in high school or a college-aged student who will be preparing for a career in education at an academic institution of higher learning in the state of Alabama.
The scholarships will be awarded to individuals who have volunteered or been employed through the Afterschool/Summer school Programs in the State of Alabama and plan to make a difference in the future of Alabama education.
SELECTION CRITERIA
A committee appointed by the Alabama Community Education Association (ACEA, Inc.) will select scholarship recipients. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of need, academic achievement, aptitude, contribution and service to an Afterschool/Summer school Program, and the student’s personal and professional goals.
