One of my groups focusing on social justice based nonfiction selected this poetic memoir. As part of their project, they actually also ended up choosing to read Anderson's fictional novel Speak, which is based on her on experience with sexual assault.

Menu Explanation and Wakelet Collection

One group member was unable to be present on presentation day due to qualifying for the State wrestling tournament. He created a video for his portion of the presentation that explains his group's menu development. Additionally, each group created a Wakelet with additional materials on the authors and subjects of their books; this group's is available below.

Michelle McNamara

A group focusing on creativity in nonfiction selected this true crime novel in part because the group members enjoy true crime podcasts and television shows and in part because McNamara interweaves her own story and detective work into the solving of this horrific crime spree.

Book Trailer

This group shared Copper Starter Pack doughnuts and their signature drink, "Blood," fruit punch with a fruit wedge garnish. Additionally, one group member created original music for their book trailer.

Steve Sheinkin

A group focusing on scientific nonfiction selected this text explaining the race to create the atomic bomb. Some of the group members were also interested in historical nonfiction so this work was a good fit for them.

Robin Ha

A creativity nonfiction group selected this illustrated memoir because both members wanted to read a graphic novel, a new genre for them.

Menu

This group created a red bean smoothie based on a drink from the memoir. It was an interesting, new, and tasty treat for our class to try!

Karen Blumenthal

A group focusing on historical nonfiction selected this work on the history of bootlegging in America. They had a lot of creative ideas, including purchasing period-style jugs to serve root beer and Sprite to their classmates.

One more sample from the teacher

Aldous Huxley (1932)
