Engineering Fair Project
Jan. 1, 2024 - Feb. 23, 2024
Calling all cardboard pros! This year we are focusing on OUTDOOR YARD GAMES! Coach Scott needs our help creating some yard games for field day this year.
We are catering to the needs of others and making affordable outdoor yard games for kids with special needs. This is in collaboration with Made 4 Me. A local volunteer organization that designs and creates equipment for kids with special needs. All of this is free to families! Want more information on this organization? Check out their website!
ALL PROJECTS ARE DUE the morning of Feb. 23 for judging. Students will present their projects to our business leaders participating.
ALL projects will need to be made mostly out of cardboard. See Engineering Fair Journal for all the details!
Want to participate? Please sign up on the Google Form link (this is used to know how many medals and trophies will need needed.)

Cultural Arts Awesomeness at YES!
United Arts Wake County
York has been featured as a school that has invested in providing cultural arts experiences for our special education self-contained ECS classes. Due: 12/8
This year's inspiration comes from a local organization that gives back to families in need. Made 4 Me is designed in house and specific to the child it's created for... so their pieces are truly one of a kind. This organization runs off of donations, grants, and volunteers.
They take using cardboard to another level! Walking in the makerspace I was in awe!
We are partnering with them this year for our Engineering Fair, as well as community service connection.
York and Made 4 Me share a common goal! We love to problem solve and make other people's lives a little bit easier. We both use authentic issues to problem solve and make the world slightly better. Check out some of the steps needed in order to create a project!

SUMMER STEM Challenge 2023
Come one come all and try your hand out on an engineering task... Do you have a knack for devising creative products? Are you able to take one thing and make it into something else? Well, this is the challenge for you!
Our Summer STEM Challenge is to take an ordinary POOL NOODLE and transform it into something special. This is inspired from ordinary flip flops turned into beautiful creations...
Let your imagination run wild. Can you turn it into an animal? Any living thing? Food? Shelter? Transform your noodle to help out our environment or be an emotional support friend for those in need! I can't wait to see what you create!
Problem: At the end of summer people toss their perfectly good pool noodles into the trash. They take up a lot of room in landfills and take a while to decompose. Families toss them because they have no place to store it until next year. So, help transform a pool noodle into something special.
Constraints:
Costs less than $5.
Incorporates 3 or more colors.
Is taller than a foot but smaller than 3 feet.
Everything is attached and can be picked up with one hand.
