The WCPSS Library Media Services Year-End Report asked SLMCs to report how frequently their MTAC met and which focus area they worked on during this school year. Responses in June indicated the following:
More than half our schools reported that they still used the WakeForward framework in 2020-2021.
These focus areas were reported via the Year-End report in June 2021.
The Library Media Service site was shared with school library media coordinators at the start of the 2020-2021 school year as a new resource to support their work.
To simplify access to WakeForward materials, all WakeForward support was moved out of the 2gnoMe platform at bit.ly/wakeforward and onto the new Library Media Services site.
Site analytics show that the WakeForward page of the Library Media Services site had the third highest pageviews, behind the homepage of the site and the page detailing instructions for completing the DLMI.
The tenth most used page was MTAC Resources, which provides sample agendas and protocol ideas for facilitating an effective MTAC meeting.
Other WakeForward pages that had 100-175 views include:
School Library Program Assessment,
Learning Opportunities,
Reporting Your Focus Area,
Suggested Timeline; and
What is WakeForward?
Pages that were focus area specific or supported the digital portfolio component for WakeForward had fewer views.
Learning opportunities were limited this year due to COVID-19. SLMCs had access to the digital resources curated on the WakeForward pages of the Library Media Services site. They could also choose to participate in a WakeForward Virtual PLC that ran from January-May 2021.
23 people registered in WakeLearns for the WakeForward Virtual PLC. Of those, 14 attended at least 1 of the monthly virtual meetings, and 8 completed at least 1 module in the corresponding Canvas course. Learn more about the WakeForward Virtual PLC here.

56 schools updated their MTAC digital portfolio with evidence through the 20-21 school year.
As expected, participation in WakeForward declined significantly in the 2020-2021 school year. Library Media Services repeatedly stressed that, while we felt WakeForward was still relevant, we recognized that everyone's capacity was being stretched thin and that the goal for this school year was simply to survive.
We were surprised by the number of SLMCs who continued to work on WakeForward goals, despite the challenges of the pandemic.
Participants in the WakeForward PLC reported via WakeLearns that the course was useful and addressed their needs both in content and format.
We continue to have sites where administration does not allow for an MTAC.
Despite the pandemic, 109 schools still selected a focus area and worked toward setting WakeForward goals. Of those, half were able to document evidence of their work in their digital portfolio.
77 schools did not work on WakeForward this school year. 24 schools reported that they did not meet with their MTAC at all.
We recognize that the 2021-2022 school year will continue to hold challenges related to the pandemic. However, our intent is to begin the year with a reboot of WakeForward during an in-person AAT day meeting. Strategies for improved implementation include:
Explanation of initiative and available resources during AAT day
Weekly office hours for support
Clear timeline and deadline reminders through Wakemedia Monthly postings
Strategic MTAC support
Messaging to principals
Updated/refreshed digital resources for each focus area
Blended learning opportunities for both focus area PLCs and common learning PLCs that may span multiple focus areas
Coordinated messaging with existing regional PLT leaders
Opportunities for showcasing exemplar work at schools.
