Making the transition to middle school can be challenging! There are a few things that will be different at EM3. The biggest ones will most likely be working with 7 different teachers each day and finding your way around campus. Use the checklist below to help you be prepared. Remember, there will always be teachers and staff around to help you, so don't stress too much!
Class Selection: Be sure to look through all the classes that are available to you. Make selections based on what you are interested in learning about, not just what your friends are taking. Ask questions if you are unsure what will be covered in a course. You can contact your counselor, Ms. Risalvato if you have any questions regarding what courses you would like to take.
Get organized: Students will need composition notebooks and binders for their core classes. You will also need a folder for homework assignments and other handouts. Think about how you like to organize your materials and create a system (many students use colors to differentiate materials for each subjects). You should also get an agenda to record your assignments in each day.
Practice your morning routine: Being on time for class is very important! Set you alarm for a “school day” a few times during the summer. See if you have enough time to get your materials ready, eat breakfast and log into your first period class.
Create a study space at home: Pick a place in your house that is suitable for doing school work. It should be well lit, quiet, and have enough room for your computer and taking notes on paper. Make sure all your school materials are here incase you need them during class. If you can, post important information such as your schedule, due dates and frequently used websites nearby.
Explore this website: Click around the different pages to learn more about EM3 and the teachers you will be working with. You can also take a virtual campus tour so you know exactly where to find everything when we are back on campus.
Attend 6th Grade Orientation: All 6th graders and their families will be invited to attend virtual Cougar Camp on Monday, August 17th. During this time we will lay expectations for virtual learning, introduce teacher, and show you how to navigate the different tools you will need to access.
GET EXCITED: The thought of middle school may be scary, but it is really very exciting! Be ready to explore new things in the classroom and become a more independent student. You will also have opportunities to take different types of classes and meet new people.
