Step 2: Listen to these examples of figurative language in music. Click on the video to watch and listen.
Step 3: Challenge!! This is a song that contains figurative language. Listen to and see if you can the find the figurative language.
Step 4: Choose a song from one of your favorite artists/bands. Go to this site to search for your song. Print and read through the lyrics.

Step 5: With a highlighter or pen, identify and label the type of figurative language being used. Is it a simile? Is it a metaphor? Is it personification?
Step 6: Circle a selection of lyrics in your chosen song that you particularly enjoy. You could pick your favorite verse, the chorus, or any complete thought or idea. Write why you enjoy this section, what type of figurative language you discovered, and what clues indicate that.
Step 7: The theme is the main idea or the message of the song. At the bottom of your lyrics, choose a theme and provide evidence from the song that supports this theme.
