Hello! My name is Shawna Scipione (skippy-O-knee)! This is my 24th year teaching, but my first year here at Baileywick Elementary. I am so excited to be here to teach third grade Math! I have also taught Pre-k, 1st, 2nd, and 6th grades at both public and charter schools here in North Carolina, as well as in Oregon and Arizona. I am passionate about real-world learning, math discourse, and building math confidence for all students, and I hope to bring excitement to learning Math in third grade! I want all of my students to not only learn the concepts of math, but also how to improve the mathematical practices that will carry forward, such as creating viable arguments, modeling math concepts visually, and using math reasoning and vocabulary in discourse. On a personal note, I have been married for 25 years. I am a California native, but have called Raleigh, NC home since 2007. I have two adult children, one living and working at home and one currently at UNC- Chapel Hill. We love to spend our time together as a family exploring the beaches of the Southeast, attending music concerts and DPAC shows, and going to local sporting events (Go Tarheels!).

I love nature and animals! I have a 10 year old Boxer-lab mix named Zoey, two red-eared slider turtles named Carlos and Pedro, and a crested gecko named Daphne.
