In Honors Creative Writing II, we will study the composition of poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. In order to become better writers, we will be reading just as much as we put pen to paper. Only through reading the works of others can we come to realize the types of writers we want to be.
We will be writing every day in this class. Additionally, we will be sharing our work in small group and whole class settings throughout the year; participation is not optional. As we grow more comfortable with each other, we will begin workshopping original poems, stories, and essays. This is a very sensitive environment; therefore, everything that is written and shared in class is not to be shared outside of the classroom.
In addition to this classwork, we will publish the 2022 edition of Blueprints, our school’s arts journal. Every year, the Honors Creative Writing II class curates and produces this publication, which features poetry, prose, and visual art from Athens Drive students. Work on Blueprints affords us the opportunity to explore the entire publishing process--solicitation, selection of work, editing, design, and marketing.
