I received my teaching degree from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. After 4 years of very cold walks to classes that would nearly bring me to tears, I knew I wanted to head to warmer weather. I landed in Cary teaching 8th Grade Math at West Lake Middle. At that time, it was the only year-round school. I have never taught in a traditional setting. For me, year-round is the best schedule for many reasons.
I taught for 3 years and decided to go back to school taking some graphic design classes. From there, I worked at the Wolfpack Club for 5 years. While at the Wolfpack Club, I began forming my own custom stationery business, Sorboro Smiles. Once my husband and I started our family, I decided to pursue Sorboro Smiles full-time from home.
When my youngest started kindergarten at Adams, I had a 3rd and 5th grader there as well. It was at that time, that I dipped my toes back into the waters of teaching. I have served in several teaching roles at Adams; 4 long-term subbing assignments, math tutor, 3 years as the Read to Achieve teacher for 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and a math/reading intervention teacher for 4th and 5th.
I have a lot of familiar faces in my class this year as they were in Ms. Kurtz's class when I helped with her maternity leave. I am looking forward to working with them again and helping them prepare for middle school!
