Passage Home - Family w/Children
No hotel assistance is available for families in immediate need. Our county does not have 24 hour shelters. Please explore other options with the family while also providing these resources.
Access Hub/Coord Entry (919) 443-0096, HW_AH@partnershipwake.org, Mon-Fri 8am-5pm for the Wake Prevent Program (family must have been impacted by Covid).
Donations through churches, businesses, PTA, staff, or other resources.
If the family has ties to the Cary area, Dorcas (469-9861) may be able to assist.
Diversion:
Diversion is the first resource that should be explored. Why? Because other resources are either limited or non-existent.
Explore the family/youth support system.
Do you need to contact someone on the family's behalf as a mediator?
Make sure they have a plan for a safe place for tonight (even if it's in a car).
NOTE: Focus on just one night - you will find more success.
Prepare for these crisis calls ahead of time:
Be proactive by reaching out to PTA, businesses, churches, etc. to set up a resource that can be used in an emergency.
Write yourself a script on how to help the family think through their available resources. Make the script conveniently available in immediate situations (on paper, on phone, etc.).
Know that Wake County does NOT have 24hr emergency shelters.
Know that $$$ cannot be generated and used within a short time frame unless it's private donations.
Same day financial assistance is not likely through any community resource. (Ex. I have to be out of the hotel by noon today.)
Review the legal rights and keep this in a convenient location.
