Math Highlights- The students will demonstrate fluency, with addition and subtraction, within 20. They will use base ten blocks to build and represent numbers in a variety of ways. They will also practice skip counting by 5's, 10's, and 100's up to 1,000. They will be expected to identify the value of each digit of a two-digit number.
Social Studies - This week students will learn what is means to be an anthropologist. They will also learn about different traditions and foods, and their origin. We will begin looking at the Cherokee culture.
Letterland Highlights- Next week we will begin Unit 1 of Letterland. This unit features open and closed syllables. When a word has just one vowel and is at the end of the word or syllable, it is an open Syllable and the Vowel Man can "shout his name" because he does not have to worry about shouting in another Letterlanders ear. When there is a vowel with a consonant after it, it is a closed syllable because they are keeping the vowel safe for Vowel Stealing Robots. On Tuesday, they will bring home their Letterland notebook, which has a menu of homework options. They are required to complete one per night (3 total next week) and then turn in the notebook on Friday. You can find more information here on Unit 1.
