Math Highlights- This week we will begin a unit on measurement. Students will be expected to measure the length of an object in standard and non-standard units by selecting and using appropriate tools such as rulers, yardsticks, meter sticks, and measuring tapes. Encourage your child to use measurement at home. Some ideas to try: measure your family member's height, measure the length of pets, and have them help you follow a recipe (we will get into fractions soon).
Social Studies - We will begin a unit on economics this week. Students will learn the difference between goods and services. They will learn how individuals make economic decisions. They will also learn about resources and how the availability of resources impacts economic decisions.
Letterland Highlights- We will study unit 23 this week, which features three variations of the or sound. They include: -ore,-oor, and -our. Examples of these patterns are found in words such as floor, course, and ignore. The tricky words are: orange and touch. Ask your child if they can identify what is tricky about them.
Classroom Behavior: It is hard to believe it is April and we are entering the fourth quarter. As the weather warms and summer is on the horizon focus and work habits can start to suffer. Please remind your student about the importance of continuing to do their best in the classroom and to TREK each and every day!
