Okay,”Walkie Talkie,” I say. “ Flashlight, sleeping bag, nutrition bars, anything else?” I look around our camp, or as I like to call it, the laboratory. I started to pack all of our bags when my fellow hikers tell me to look up, and there it was, The Aurora Borealis, with its wave-like sea of colors. The sight stuns me, and I say, “Oh my god.” Some say it is the most beautiful sight, I think they are underestimating it. “ Let’s finish packing,” I say, and then we return to our bags. “ And I thought Alaska couldn’t get any better.”
After setting all the bags up, we go over the plan quickly. We will hike around Lake Grosvenor and collect samples of life in the forest to bring to the laboratory. “ Be careful of grizzly bears,” I warn my companions.” We will not hurt them, for they are endangered, majestic creatures. Be careful though, I do not want anyone to lose a limb.”
The silent, beautiful night in the snowy forest made the time fly by. We also found some half-eaten sockeye salmon, which is good and bad because of bears. I then heard my companion's radio to me to come quickly to see something. I came over, and I saw fresh bear tracks. “It’s all right,” I say. Let’s keep on going.”
My companions went silent after that, but I didn’t. I was determined to hike around Lake Grosvenor. Besides, we were pretty far on our hike. Oh look, I see some rabbit fur. Let me just-Grrrr… ROOOAAARRR!!
