Class Information

Parent/Teacher Communication:

Welcome to Mrs. Roy's Track 4 2nd Grade class! Consistent, two-way communication is KEY to your child’s success in school. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions/concerns. Email (LRoy@wcpss.net) is my preferred mode of communication, but I’ll also write/respond to notes, make phone calls, and meet with you…anytime! You’ll receive an interim 4-5 weeks into each quarter, as well as a report card at the end of each quarter. We’ll also host conferences at the end of 1st and 3rd quarters.

Arrival/Dismissal:

Students can enter the school as early as 7:00 am. If they arrive between 7:00 am and 7:10 am, they will go to the cafeteria to wait for the bell. The first bell rings at 7:10 am. Our day begins at 7:40 am. If your child’s isn’t in the classroom when this bell rings, they are considered tardy and will have to sign in through the office. Afternoon carpoolers will be dismissed to the gym at 2:15 pm. Walkers will be dismissed to go to the shelter by the front circle at 2:15 pm. YMCA will be dismissed to the cafeteria at 2:20 pm, and bus riders will stay in the classroom until their buses are posted. Please let me know of any transportation changes! You can write/send a note in their behavior calendar or email me. You can also call the office and leave a message (662-2300).

BYOD

I'm excited that we will be BYOD classrooms again, and I look forward to integrating technology into our everyday learning. We mostly use Chromebooks in our classroom, but all other devices are welcome.

SEE ABOVE LINK.

Classroom Updates:

Classroom updates will be posted on the various curriculum pages. You can refer to these pages for information regarding literacy, math, social studies, and science. This will provide you with detailed information regarding what we’re doing in the classroom and what you can do at home to support your child.

Behavior Chart/Calendar:

A behavior report will go home each day in student agendas. Parents will need to sign the agenda, nightly, to ensure that this communication is being received on both ends.

Positive Behavior Reinforcement:

Students will receive tickets in class for positive behavior! If they are participating in class, helping a friend or showing our positivity project character trait for the week, they will have many opportunities to receive one! All tickets are collected, daily. Six tickets are drawn at the end of each week and those students can pick coupons to use at their leisure.

Lunch:

Students may bring their lunch or buy a school lunch. School lunches are $2.25. Your child’s lunch number is the same number as last year. For more information regarding school lunches, click here.

Snacks:

We’ll have a working snack time each morning around 9:00 am so please send in a healthy snack each day. No juice, just water is allowed in the trailer.

Absences:

If your child misses school for an excused reason, please send in a note (or email us) with the days missed and reason missed. (See the WCPSS Student/Parent handbook for a list of reasons for excused absences.) If your child gets sick at school, the office will call you and your child will need to be picked up as soon as possible.

Medications:

A child may not take any medications without a form from his/her doctor. This includes over-the-counter medicines, cough drops, sunscreen, and Chap Stick.

Early Sign Out:

If you need to sign your child out early, you’ll have to sign them out through the office. They’ll call me and I’ll send them to the office with their things. If you know in advance that you’ll be picking them up early, let me know and I’ll try to have their things ready!
