When is the first day of school for students?
Tuesday, August 27th.
When does school start?
Students are to wait in the Auditorium until 7AM. First period begins promptly at 7:30AM. Students should be in their classrooms and in their seats at this time. Any student that arrives after 7:30AM is required to be escorted to the Main Office with an adult to check them in tardy.
Is there a Bell Schedule?
This is the current Bell Schedule for the 2023-2024 School Year. Click to enlarge the picture. There are 7 class periods during the day (including FLEX) as well as lunch. FLEX is when students receive remediation, acceleration, or small-group teacher or peer assistance. SEL stands for Social and Emotional Learning where students will be completing lessons from the Second Step program.

Yes, there are two. The first one is the WCPSS Student Handbook which contains all the rules and procedures that students are expected to follow within the district. More information about district policies, as well as Spanish versions of the Student Handbook can be found here. The second one is specific to West Cary, which can also be found here.

All students must re-register for a bus route (even if you have registered in the past). For all transportation questions, please visit the link here for Bus Routes, Registration, the Here Comes the Bus app, and more.
How can I check my child's grades?
WCPSS uses PowerSchool as the online grading program for the district. All grades and assignments from all classes can be viewed 24/7. The Main Office will provide you with a parent username and password. I would highly encourage you to also download the app to instantly receive updated information. Grades will be updated weekly. The year is broken down into 2 semesters and 4 quarters. Each quarter is 9 weeks long. Progress reports are provided each quarter.
What is the grading scale?
Students are graded based on skill-based performance on a 10-point scale as show below.
A: 100-90
B: 89-80
C: 79-70
D: 69-60
F: Below 60
What math curriculum will be used?
We will be using the Illustrative Mathematics Open-Up Resources Curriculum this year. More information can be found under the "Math 6" and "Math 6+" tabs above or on their website here.
What is the difference between Math 6 and Math 6 PLUS?
We offer two different 6th Grade courses.
Math 6 is the standard track that covers all of the required North Carolina State Standards for 6th Grade Math. There are 8 units in total for the year.
Math 6 PLUS or Math 6+ includes everything in Math 6 as well as half of the NC State Standards for 7th Grade Math. There are 12 units in total for the year. It is a rigorous and fast-paced course.
At the end of the year, ALL 6th Grade students will take the 6th Grade Math EOG regardless of the math course they are enrolled in.
What Learning Management System (LMS) will be used?

Where can I find more information about Free/Reduced Lunch?
Free/Reduced Meal applications are now available for the 2024-2025 School Year. You can find more information on how to sign up here.

How do I change the language I receive messages on Talking Points?
All messages sent by teachers will be in English. Talking Points automatically translates messages to your preferred language of choice indicated in your contact information within PowerSchool. To change the language, you will need to go to your profile, select the edit button in the upper right corner, and then select language and choose your preferred language. Follow the steps in the diagram provided.
Is tutoring available?
No, WCPSS does not offer tutoring at this time.
Is there a class wishlist I can support?
Yes, I will happily accept donations of pencils, tissue boxes, hand sanitizer, clorox wipes, and dry erase markers as these are high need items. There is also an Amazon Wishlist for the classroom which you can find here. All items will be used to further the education of my students. I greatly appreciate the support. There is zero obligation to donate.
