ART 1: Beginning
Introduction to design elements and principles
Drawing, painting, graphics, fibers, 2D design, art history, 3D design
Emphasis on foundational techniques and exploration across media
ART 2: Intermediate
Deeper study of design and technical growth
Drawing, painting, printmaking (silk screening, linocuts, woodcuts), art history, 3D design (wood, clay, fibers)
Builds on ART 1; encourages refinement and repetition of design principles
ART 3: Accomplished (Honors)
Advanced understanding of art processes and history
Experimental media, culturally significant works, extensive art history
Requires rigorous study and excellence; students produce sophisticated, meaningful art
ART 4: Advanced
Personalized, thematic portfolio development
Drawing/Painting, Color & Design, artist research, chosen concentration
Students work independently, solve complex visual problems, and critically assess their own and others’ work
Progressive Mastery: Each level increases in complexity, autonomy, and depth of study.
Media Exploration: Students work with a wide range of materials—from fibers and clay to printmaking and painting.
Art History Integration: Historical context and cultural significance are woven throughout.
Portfolio Development: By ART 4, students focus on building a cohesive, thematic body of work.
