School to Home Communication

Keeping an open line of communication is important to us! We want to make sure that we are on the same page throughout this learning partnership. In order to facilitate communication in the most efficient way possible, we have set up a few communication channels that we will primarily use this school year.

Talking Points: We will utilize Talking Points as a tool for communication this year. More information will come with how to connect with your child's teacher!
Email: Individual teachers will make sure you have their email address to stay in contact.

Individual teachers may also offer additional ways of communication. Please make sure you save the contact information of your child's teacher in a safe place!

There are several types of assessments that we use each year: District-wide program assessments, classroom assessments, and informal observations. Each of these assessments provides the basis for grading. We will use these assessment types again this year.

State Testing: At the end of the year, students will participate in the End of Grade (EOG) testing for both reading and math.
District-Wide Testing: We typically have District-wide quarterly tests throughout the school year. These are designed to test your child’s knowledge of our quarterly math and reading objectives.
Classroom Assessments: We will conduct unit assessments with each of our units of instruction in all academic areas. Some units will have mid-unit and end-of-unit assessments. These assessments are given to assess your child’s progress towards mastery of our standards.
Informal Observations: We will be assessing your child’s progress daily through our lessons based on teacher observations. They will help to determine your child’s specific needs on a daily basis and allow us to adjust instruction to meet his or her needs.

Rubrics will be provided with each assessment and/or writing piece so that students know and understand the expectations they must meet in order to be considered proficient on a particular standard. Keep in mind that students will have multiple opportunities to show mastery throughout a unit, not just on the final assessment. It is normal for students to earn level 1 or 2 at the beginning of a unit and then grow to a 3 or 4 by the end.
