All about me

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to 3rd grade!  I am so excited to start the new school year with your child.  It will be a wonderful year of discovery and creativity in order to become independent learners.  It is an amazing year of growth. 

A little about me: I have two children; Jackson has graduated with his masters degree and has started working at ECU.  We are planning a wedding for him and his fiance Taylor in May 2027. Miley will start her Junior year at ECU this fall.  I have been married for 25+ years to my wonderful husband, Craig, and I am active in my church. 

I graduated from ECU in 1997 with a degree in Special Education.  I taught Middle and High School until 2006, when I became a stay at home mom.  Once my kids were both in school, I became a TA here at Brassfield.  I earned my Elementary Education licensure in 2014 and started working as a teacher at Brassfield the following fall, and I love it! 

My motto is to teach kids to love learning.  I will be promoting a growth mindset in my classroom. We will learn that failure is just one way that something doesn’t work, and we will try, try again. We learn from our mistakes and grow! We will speak about our learning in “yets”.  I have not mastered that, yet! 

Your First Assignment:

Parents, please email me.  I would like to know about your child before they enter my classroom.  What are their likes, dislikes?  What activities do they participate in after school?   What is your family life like?  What things make you proud about your child inside and outside of school?  What are your concerns?  

Basically, what do I need to know about your child to help them become successful.  You have known them much longer than me ;).

Estimados padres y estudiantes:

¡Bienvenidos a tercer grado! Me entusiasma mucho comenzar el nuevo año escolar con su hijo o hija. Será un año maravilloso de descubrimiento y creatividad para convertirnos en estudiantes independientes; es un año increíble de crecimiento.

Un poco sobre mí: tengo dos hijos. Jackson ya se graduó de su maestría y ha comenzado a trabajar en ECU; estamos planeando su boda con su prometida, Taylor, para mayo de 2027. Miley comenzará su tercer año universitario (Junior year) en ECU este otoño. Llevo más de 25 años casada con mi maravilloso esposo, Craig, y participo activamente en mi iglesia.

Me gradué de ECU en 1997 con un título en Educación Especial. Di clases en secundaria y preparatoria (Middle y High School) hasta 2006, momento en el que decidí dedicarme al hogar. Cuando mis hijos ya asistían a la escuela, comencé a trabajar como asistente docente aquí en Brassfield. Obtuve mi licencia de Educación Primaria en 2014 y comencé a trabajar como maestra en Brassfield el otoño siguiente; ¡me encanta!

Mi lema es enseñar a los niños a amar el aprendizaje. Fomentaré una mentalidad de crecimiento en mi aula. Aprenderemos que el fracaso es simplemente una forma de ver que algo no funciona, y que debemos intentarlo una y otra vez. ¡Aprendemos de nuestros errores y crecemos! Hablaremos de nuestro aprendizaje usando la palabra "todavía" (por ejemplo: "¡Todavía no domino eso!").

Su primera tarea:

Padres, por favor envíenme un correo electrónico. Me gustaría conocer a su hijo antes de que llegue a mi clase. ¿Qué le gusta y qué no? ¿En qué actividades participa después de la escuela? ¿Cómo es su vida familiar? ¿Qué cosas les hacen sentir orgullosos de su hijo, tanto dentro como fuera de la escuela? ¿Cuáles son sus inquietudes?

Básicamente, ¿qué necesito saber sobre su hijo para ayudarle a tener éxito? Ustedes lo conocen desde hace mucho más tiempo que yo ;).
