General Announcements
As a 7th grader, you are eligible to participate in Pep Band, audition for Jazz Band, and will attend the MPA Festival. You are encouraged to prepare and audition for the All-County and All-District Band Auditions, especially if you are working with a private instructor.
The book you will be using in Intermediate Band this year is the Habits of Successful Beginning Band Musician (Green book). This book is designed for a year and half of instruction. IF, at a later point, I need to supplement instruction, I'll let you know what needs to happen. If you have lost (or thrown away) this book, please purchase a new copy.
You will need a 1" Binder for daily use in class. You will need a pencil pouch for your binder.
Supplemental materials will be provided. Warm ups, scale sheets, rhythm grids are all used as supplemental materials throughout the year.
Dress Code for Concerts:
Concert attire is All Black. (And black means black. Not grey. No pinstripes, patterns or bling, etc)
Outfit 1: Black dress slacks (no leggings, yoga pants or jeans), Solid Black 3/4 length or Long Sleeved Shirt (no bling, stripes, patterns, etc. Black closed toe dress shoes (no tennis shoes)
Outfit 2: Black dress slacks (no jeans), Solid Black, long sleeved dress shirt, tie, Black dress shoes (no tennis shoes)
The major concepts in music theory this year will be to learn to play:
Cut Time
Compound Meter - 3/8 and 6/8
Syncopation and 16th Notes
Three goals:
1. Focus on intonation skills - long tones and sustained breath support in both melodic and harmonic intervals.
2. Write in the Counting; Clap and Count appropriate rhythmic lines
3. Continue to grow and use appropriate musical vocabulary in discussions and written class work
