Vincent van Gogh was born on March 30, 1853, in Groot-Zundert, Netherlands.
Did you know that artists are inspired by the everyday ordinary things? Artists like Van Gough made art that depicts everyday life and objects.
The picture above is a painting of his bedroom.
**Suggestions for more activities are on the last slide of the presentation.**
Learning to look with your entire visual field:
Stand with your arms straight out in front of you. Look straight ahead and focus on one thing.
Slowly open your arms to the side, keeping them parallel to the ground. Continue looking straight ahead, but pay attention to your hands as they move towards the edge of your field of vision. Stop moving your arms as soon as you reach the edge of your field of vision, and your hands are just visible.
Now look at how large your field of vision is, and all of the room that you can see in front of you. If you think about it, your vision is like a panorama photograph.
Today as you go about your life try to stay aware of your entire field of vision.
Artist Challenge: Look carefully for several minutes at the room you are in right now. What catches your eye? What do you notice that you might normally not? Is the furniture hard or soft? How do the lines differ on hard surfaces versus soft surfaces? What shapes do you see?
Play "I Spy" with your family. Take turns looking for the colors in rainbow order!
