A semester-long course offered to 6th grade students in both semesters, and to 7th graders in the fall semester. In this course, students are introduced to the Spanish language and Spanish-speaking countries.
Students must successfully pass this course to be permitted to take Continuing Spanish.

Geography and culture
Unidad 1: ¿Quién soy yo? (Who am I?)
Greetings and introductions
Likes and dislikes
Describing people's personality and physical characteristics
A semester-long course offered only to 7th grade students. This course is a continuation of Introduction to Spanish.
Students must successfully pass this course to be permitted to take Spanish 1 for HS Credit.
Topics of study include:
The alphabet
Numbers 1-100 and colors
Geography and culture
Unidad 2: ¿Qué es una familia? (What is a family?)
Members of the family
Likes and dislikes
Describing people's personality and physical characteristics
Pets
Unidad 3: ¿Cómo estudiamos y aprendemos? (How am I educated?)
School in the USA compared to Spanish-speaking countries
Schedules and calendars
School supplies
Talking about and describing classes/teachers
A year-long course offered only to 8th grade students who have successfully completed both Introduction and Continuing Spanish. Students who complete this course successfully and pass the final exam will receive High School Credit towards the World Language requirement for graduation and be eligible to take Spanish 2 upon entering High School.
