About Me

I have been teaching music in some form or fashion for over 20 years. I started out my career as a high school chorus teacher in South Carolina. Then, when our family moved to Seattle, WA in 2003, I switched to being mostly a church musician and children's choir director. I ran a piano studio out of my home for eight years, too, and led a community children's choir as well. In 2018, our family moved to North Carolina, and I began subbing in the Wake County Public Schools, taking mostly music sub jobs. I fell in love with the elementary music classroom, and began the process of getting re-certified so I could teach full time. I was hired as a full-time music specialist in 2019, and I have loved every minute of being back in the classroom!

I have 4 children, and music is a huge part of our lives. I tell my students that my house is never quiet, with a trumpet, guitar, saxophone, violin, or piano always playing at some point in time - sometimes all at once! I love to sing, and have been part of community choirs and church music my whole life.

It is a joy and privilege to share my love of music with the next generation of children. I am driven, not just to help students unlock and hone their musical abilities, but also to use music to develop their whole selves so that, when they leave my program, they will be healthy, flourishing human beings. I firmly believe that the study and performance of music does as much to nourish the soul as it does the brain. I see it as my joy and privilege to set students on a lifelong journey of music appreciation and creation that will seed future generations with citizens who share their love of music with the world.
