Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What if I need to change how my child comes home from school on a given day?

Transportation changes need to be either in writing (NOT Dojo) or called into the office. Due to the large number of students in the school and the importance of keeping track of them and how they leave the school, it is required that the office is informed directly by the parent either by a note in the morning or a call to the front desk.  Thank you so much for your cooperation!

Q: How will I know how my child is doing in class?

Tuesday folders are used as a weekly communication tool between home and school.  Some papers are to be kept at home while others will need to be returned to school.  Please note that all papers with a graded/numeric score (1-4) need to be signed and returned to the Tuesday folder the next day.  Papers that are not graded or marked with a "P" for practice are for you to keep to show progress at school!

Q: What is the best way to get in touch with you?

During the day I can be reached primarily through Talking Points message, but can also be reached on my school email, jparker2@wcpss.net.  I will return emails within 24 hours at the latest.

Q: Do you have classroom volunteers?

Yes! Tuesday folders, tutors, math fluency, and reading partners are just some ways you can help.  I will be interested in locating a Room Parent to help communicate with other parents as well, so please let me know if you are interested!

Q: What is your homework policy?

Please check your child’s agenda for homework assignments and reminders.  Students should be reading for at least 30 minutes each night. Please see THIS PAGE on the website for some important reasons about why!

Partway through the fall, I will send home a Multiplication Facts Toolkit that gives some ideas to help practice Multiplication Facts, which will be a nightly expectation as well. It is vital that students master their facts to be able to easily move on in upper grades.
