Science Curriculum

Think Like a Scientist:

During the first couple of weeks of school we will learn about safety in the science classroom. Students will also become familiar with their lab stations, equipment and procedures for performing a lab.

What's The Matter?

Students will be able to understand the structure, classifications, and physical properties of matter. Students will know that matter can be classified based on structure and physical properties.

Catch a Wave:

Students will have an understanding of waves and the wavelike property of energy in earthquakes, light, and sound waves. Students will also understand characteristics of energy transfer and interactions of matter and energy.

Land Beneath Our Feet:

Students will understand the structure of Earth, how interactions of constructive and destructive forces have resulted in changes in the surface of Earth over time, and the effects of the lithosphere on humans.

Growing and Flowing:

Students will gain an understanding of the structures, processes, and behaviors of plants that enable them to survive and reproduce. In addition, they will understand the flow of energy through ecosystems and the responses of populations to the biotic and abiotic factors in their environment.

Space Invaders!:

Students will build an understanding that the earth, moon, and sun operate as a system, that celestial bodies have unique properties, structures, and predictable motions, and that space exploration has affected life on earth.
