Math

Year at a Glance

In quarter 1 students will move through 3 math units: Equal Groups, Using Data to Solve Problems, and Addition and Subtraction.  Each unit will have daily lessons, math notes, exit tickets, a study guide, and assessments.  Students will have a math workbook with sheets provided by WCPSS.  Students will keep notes in their math journal.  Math study guides and test will be Canvas.

Multiplication Fluency is important this year.

By the end of the year, students should be fluent with their multiplication facts 0-10.  I encourage students to challenge themselves and also learn the 11's and 12's.  Learning your multiplication facts in 3rd grade will make 4th and 5th grade math so much better. We will use Subitizing as one method of becoming fluent with multiplication facts.  Feel free to purchase multiplication flashcards from Target or Walmart to keep at home.  We will work on the 2s, 5s, and 10s in Quarter 1.

Unit 1 Equal Groups      We use Subitizing decks to practice multiplication facts.  In Q1 we will take multiplication fact tests on 2s, 5s, and 10s.  We use factors 0-12.
