Air Pressure
Profiles the significance of air pressure and how it relates to the weather. Different factors affect air pressure.
What Makes Weather?
Describes how weather forms and where in the atmosphere it is located. Weather occurs in the layer of atmosphere closest to the earth, called the troposphere. It occurs due to the interactions of air, water, and heat. The program discusses the differences in the ways warm and cool air move in the atmosphere, the effect of air pressure on weather conditions, and how temperature impacts the weather. Wind
Describes wind and its impact on weather. Wind develops as a result of differences in air pressure.
Meteorology: Predicting the Weather

Groundhog Day began many years ago when people created stories to explain the weather. Today, scientists called meteorologists study temperature, air pressure, and other factors to predict upcoming weather.

Measuring Weather
Investigates some of the tools meteorologists use to measure weather. Thermometers are used to measure air temperature and air pressure is measured with a barometer. The amount of water and humidity in the air is measured with a hydrometer. The program also describes how water moves through a process called the water cycle during which it evaporates into the atmosphere to become water vapor, condenses within clouds, and changes back into a liquid and returns to the earth when it cools. Investigating Weather
Investigates the different characteristics of weather including storms, clouds, precipitation, and fronts. Weather impacts our daily life so it is important to know the different types of weather and how to identify them.
Science Kids: Understanding Weather and Climate
Differentiates between weather and climate, and demonstrates how temperature, humidity, clouds, air pressure, and wind are interconnected. The program highlights the responsibilities of climatologists and meteorologists, and listens to host Kristin Morris and NASA climatologists explain the basics of the greenhouse effect and global warming. The program also includes a video quiz at the end of each segment that tests viewers on the content of the segment.

Real World Science: Weather
Explores weather, which is defined as the conditions occurring in the air at any one time. The program discusses how weather occurs, the ingredients required for it to form, the cycle that water undergoes in the atmosphere, and how weather conditions are measured. Severe weather events such as tornadoes and hurricanes are also discussed.
Real World Science: Climates and Seasons
Explores the causes and features of weather, climate, and seasons. The program defines the difference between weather and climate, discusses different types of climates, describes the four seasons, explains what causes climate, and looks at long term and short term climate changes.

Weather: Preparing a Severe Weather Kit
Reveals the importance of severe weather kits, and looks at various items that should and should not be included in a severe weather kit.
What Is Climate?
Defines climate as being long-range weather patterns that occur in different regions of the world. The program defines and describes the tropical, polar, and temperate climate zones and discusses the seasons and climate experienced in each. [Image thumbnail: karco / Shutterstock.com]
