"The professional school counselor is concerned with the educational, academic, career, personal and social needs and encourages the maximum development of every student."
-From the American School Counselor Association (ASCA)
A variety of small groups are offered to students throughout the year, based on the greatest need. These groups allow students to learn from one another and provide a comfortable environment to explore different topics. Please contact me if you think your child could benefit from a group experience. Some groups that might be offered include:
-Stress/Anxiety Groups
-Social Skills/Friendship Groups/Self-Regulation Groups
-Cool Kids' Group (Anger Management)
-Banana Splits' Group (For students who have recently gone through a divorce)
-Healing Hearts Group (Grief Group)
-Work Habits/Study Skills Groups
Students will receive a variety of lessons that are developmentally appropriate and focus on social/emotional skills, personal awareness, or academic/career skills. Some examples of topics covered are: K-Tattling vs. Warning; 1st-Zones of Regulation; 2nd-Conflict Calmers vs. Escalators; 3rd-Multiple Intelligences; 4th-Coping Skills ; 5th-Growth Mindset.
Individual students can be self referred, teacher referred, and parent referred for a variety of issues. I am someone students can talk to about ANYTHING. My goal is for all students to know they have at least one adult at school they can talk to!
I am also an active member of the school's leadership team, intervention team, and the Student Support Service team. I am the 504 coordinator and consult with parents and teachers to mitigate any barriers to student learning. You can also find me at carpool every morning and saying goodbye at the bus loop every afternoon!
