Mr. Cancellieri moved around a lot as a kid because his father served in the U.S. Navy. He was born in Massachusetts, and then lived in California, Illinois, Puerto Rico, and Connecticut. He almost always lived close to the ocean and became really curious about it. After high school, Mr. C majored in Marine Biology at Southampton College and then came to NC State to get his Masters in Botany while studying microscopic organisms that caused fish diseases.
While studying at NC State, Mr. Cancellieri did some teaching and fell in love with it. After earning his Masters Degree, he switched careers and became a middle school science teacher. Over the past 23 years, he has taught 8th grade science (with a little 6th and 7th grade mixed in) at Durant Road Middle, Wake Young Mens Leadership Academy, Rolesville Middle, and now Mills Park Middle. As a former scientist, Mr. C brings a unique perspective to science class. He knows that not everyone will become a scientist later in life, but understanding science information is super important to being able to lead a successful life these days.
Plus, it's SO FUN!
Because Mr. Cancellieri loves playing around with tech and gadgets, he has also become an expert in educational technology. He is really passionate about fixing some of the big problems in public education today, like grades, feedback, and student engagement. He has written two books, one with a friend about Feedback and one by himself about AI and how it can help teachers be better.
Mr. C travels all over the country helping teachers learn to understand and harness technology to make learning better for students everywhere.
