Middle Creek Counseling Team 2022-2023
Mrs. Fillard is a NC native, originally from just outside Winston-Salem.This is her 12th year as an MCES Colt. Her passion is meeting students where they are and helping all students to find success and happiness. Mrs. Fillard is especially passionate in meeting the needs of students with special needs.
Mrs. Fillard attended Meredith College and earned degrees in both K-6 Teaching and Psychology. She then attended and earned her Master's in School Counseling from North Carolina State University (Go Wolfpack!). Mrs. Fillard's professional honors include being a Nationally Certified Counselor, a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of School Counseling, and having served on the board for the North Carolina School Counselor Association (Elementary Vice President 2006-2008). In 2013 she was awarded Wake County Elementary School Counselor of the Year, as well as being selected as the North Carolina Elementary School Counselor of the Year by the North Carolina School Counselor Association. She was also honored as a semi-finalist for the National School Counselor of the year, and was honored in the White House by Michelle Obama!
In her spare time, Mrs. Fillard has been married for 20 years and is a mom to two daughters, Callie (13) and Sophie(11). She is also a mom to 3 Himalayan cats and 2 Beta fish. In her free time, she enjoys being a “dance mom”, pool time, shopping, reading and photography.
Mrs. Sledge (she/her) is a dedicated school counselor with a passion for restorative practice and helping students find motivation for their futures ensuring academic commitment and career readiness that is fulfilling and takes into consideration the whole person. She is loving, empathetic, compassionate, justice seeking, inclusive and an advocate in our community. You could say she is a "legacy" of the system and is a second generation WCPSS Counseling and Student Services member.
Mrs. Sledge holds her Master's of Science (CACREP) in School Counseling from Capella University. She additionally has earned her Bachelor's of Science in Communication Studies from Appalachian State University. (Go Mountaineers!) She is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and is in the process of obtaining her LCMHC-A in North Carolina and her National Board Certified Teacher title. In addition to her current accolades, she is a PhD Student at Capella University for Counselor Education and Supervision. As a bonus, she is a registered yoga teacher as well with a focus on restorative yoga practice and meditation.
When Mrs. Sledge is not putting on the many hats of a school counselor and a learner herself you can find her with family and friends. Connection means everything to her and her connections run deep within her circle of loved ones. She also loves to travel, learn about other cultures, read and have a good Netflix binge. In addition to family and friends, she is a huge animal lover and often has over a dozen animals from hedgehogs to horses in her care. She volunteers with numerous animal rescues and fosters animals of all walks of life.
The mission of the Middle Creek Elementary School Counseling Program is to provide a comprehensive school counseling program that is accessible to all students. This program is developmentally- appropriate and differentiated, and addresses the academic, career and personal/social development of all students through classroom lessons, and individual and group services. The school counselor facilitates system support, giving students the necessary skills to reach their full potential academically, as well as in the personal/social and career domains.
