Information overload? These are the most important DLL things to know to stay on track:Â

Work on the Library Media Services Year-End Report if your year ends in June
Complete the Library Media Services Year-End Report if your year ends in May
May and June crash together in WCPSS with schools on a multitude of calendars. It can be difficult to always know who is coming and going, testing and graduating, stretching until the end of June or hitting the vacation button earlier than others.
It can also represent the precipice of change as some people look ahead to changing schools, changing roles, and retiring. We used to play a game when I was in fourth grade called “Fruit Basket Turnover.” I adored fourth grade; cheers to Mrs. Streicher. It essentially became a metaphor in my mind for anything where people swap places in a frenzy. And this is what we do every year–fruit basket turnover.Â
If your fruit has been called and you’re headed to a new destination, including the gleaming shores of retirement, please let someone in Library Media Services know. It helps to know where you’ll land. -Kendra

It's that time of year again - the North Carolina Digital Learning and Media Inventory (DLMI) needs to be completed by each school. As a reminder, this is a report required by the NC Department of Public Instruction, and the data collected in it will be used by the state.Â
Deadlines:
Due dates for school-entered data:Â
Modified Calendar: May 16, 2025
Traditional Calendar: June 6, 2025Â
Year-Round Calendar: June 13, 2015
Final Deadline for Principal Signature: June 13, 2025
To assist with its completion, departments across Technology Services have worked together to provide you with directions. Like last year, we've aggregated data on our end and have provided those numbers to you in spreadsheets. All you need to do is find your figures and plug them into those questions in the report. Please keep in mind that we ask you to use the numbers provided. Our reports are configured to ensure consistent parameters across all schools. If you have a question about a result for your school, talk to Nicole, ngrabiec@wcpss.net , or Susan, sjohnson8@wcpss.net.

In addition to the DLMI, Library Media Services asks that you complete a year-end report so that we have data that informs our answers to questions asked by you, your administrators, and district leaders. We also take the results and share them with you at the beginning of the following school year.
This year, please note that we've divided the report by elementary and secondary. Please complete the report that corresponds with your respective level. As in years past, your responses are submitted to us via Google Form. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to use the directions sheet to gather your answers before submitting them once.
The Library Media Services team is here to help answer questions related to the report.

Collecting Library Books
You should consult with your administration and your MTAC to determine what policy is best for your school.
Some schools choose to allow students to circulate books over the summer. There is no policy that states you must collect all books for the end of the year.
If your admin and MTAC determine it is best to collect all books for the end of year, Library Media Services recommends stopping circulation no sooner than 2 weeks before the last day of school, with all books due 1 week before the last day of school. This will give you an additional week to round up books from stragglers.

Clear student accounts in Destiny
Please work with your MTAC or administration to determine criteria for clearing student accounts in Destiny that work best for your school. At minimum, Library Media Services recommends clearing the accounts of students who are leaving your school, so they can start the school year with a clean slate. These tips sheets can help you do this work in Destiny.Â
Library Inventory
As a reminder, Library Media Services does not mandate a year-end inventory. You may choose to conduct an inventory at any time during the school year. Regular circulation can continue while running an inventory. In addition, it is not necessary to inventory the entire collection all at once. You can choose to only inventory a subset of the collection. It's most important to conduct an inventory when you think there are a significant number of materials that are unaccounted for (theÂ
Destiny catalog shows them as "Available" but they cannot be found on the shelf), or a significant number of students report that they have returned materials that still show up as checked out on their account.
The easiest way to delete Lost copies from your collection is through finalizing an inventory.
You can find directions for completing a library inventory on the Destiny page on the Library Media Services site.
A PLC of librarians has been working to examine data related to circulation practices. They identified a need for more targeted support related to this topic. The new Circulation page on the Library Media Services site is a beginning stage of that support. Here, you’ll find suggested reports for examining circulation data for your library and directions for suggested steps for removing barriers to circulation. Let us know what other information we can curate to help support you in this area!Â
