ESSER Replacement Book Orders

ESSER orders from Mackin are rolling out to schools! When you receive your order, it is very important that you:

  • Quickly check in the order. Check off that each title was received on the invoice/packing slip provided with the delivery.

  • Send the packing slip to Library Media Services - not your school bookkeeper. The packing slip can be scanned and emailed to Stacy - ssymes@wcpss.net or the originals can be placed in courier.

The MARC records are sent in the shipment email. You will need to download the file and save on your computer. To upload in Destiny:

Choose File (Choose the MARC records file that was saved to your computer)

Import

More detailed directions for uploading MARC records, including a video tutorial, can be found on the Library Media Services site Destiny page, under the Cataloging heading.

If you have any questions or need assistance with checking in the order or uploading the MARC records, please reach out to Stacy (ssymes or 919-694-0279).

Library Leadership Opportunities

Whether you're looking for a leadership opportunity in WCPSS because you want to be more involved or because you want to meet the criteria of Accomplished and Distinguished on the SLMC Evaluation or both, Library Media Services is offering upcoming opportunities for you to consider and to which to apply. Each role includes a brief description. Please direct questions to either Kendra Allen (kallen2) or Susan Bock (sbock).

End of Year Reminders:

NC DLMI

Directions for completing the North Carolina Digital Learning and Media Inventory (DLMI) are now available: NC DLMI Instructions

The data collected from this report is submitted to both state and national reporting to inform budgets and digital learning efforts. Please read the instructions for completing the report carefully and let us know if you have any questions.

You will notice that the DLMI site states that the report is due on September 30, 2022. We are asking that you enter the data for your school in June so that data can more easily reflect this school year. We’ve set the same deadline for both the DLMI and the WCPSS Library Media Services Year-End Report.

Deadline for completion:

Traditional and Modified Calendar: June 10th

Year-round: June 17th

Note:

Principals will have until September 16th to sign off on the report. A message will go out to them separately to convey this information. They can, of course, sign off any time before then. This allowance provides additional time for their review and consent. As district administrators of the DLMI, we can monitor principals' completion and send reminders accordingly.

Stacy will be offering office hours for support with either the DLMI or the WCPSS Year-End Report.

  • May 16-June 3

Information from DPI about the DLMI can be found on the DLMI page on the Library Media Site. We've linked the recording of the DPI webinar and their supporting slides for anyone who may be interested; however, our district-specific instruction sheet should have all the information you'll need.

WCPSS Library Media Services Year-End Report

Please complete the WCPSS Library Media Services Year-End Report. This report is due on June 10th for Traditional and Modified Calendars and June 17th for Year-Round.

Library Media Services will compile the data gathered from this report and present it as part of our opening meeting content at the start of next school year. Aggregated data may be helpful to you, your MTAC, and/or school administration depending on objectives and discussions.

Questions? See NC DLMI section for “report support” office hours with Stacy.

Library Inventory

As a reminder, Library Media Services does not mandate a year-end inventory. You may choose to conduct an inventory at any time during the school year. Regular circulation can continue while running an inventory. In addition, it is not necessary to inventory the entire collection all at once. You can choose to only inventory a subset of the collection. It's most important to conduct an inventory when you think there are a significant number of materials that are unaccounted for (the Destiny catalog shows them as "Available" but they cannot be found on the shelf), or a significant number of students report that they have returned materials that still show up as checked out on their account.

The easiest way to delete Lost copies from your collection is through finalizing an inventory.

You can find directions for completing a library inventory on the Destiny page on the Library Media Services site.

Collecting Library Books

You should consult with your administration and your MTAC to determine what policy is best for your school.

  • Some schools choose to allow students to circulate books over the summer. There is no policy that states you must collect all books for the end of the year.

  • If your admin and MTAC determine it is best to collect all books for the end of year, Library Media Services recommends stopping circulation no sooner than 2 weeks before the last day of school, with all books due 1 week before the last day of school. This will give you an additional week to round up books from stragglers.

Melissa, by Alex Gino

Please be aware that Alex Gino’s book, previously titled George, is now titled Melissa. You can read more about the change on Scholastic’s blog: Alex Gino Shares the Importance of Changing the Title of GEORGE to MELISSA. You can recover any existing copies of the book using the resources provided on the Scholastic site: https://www.scholastic.com/site/alex-gino.html

Library Media Services will be updating the title record for this book so that the new title is reflected in the catalog. We are waiting to do this until we can align the change with vendor cataloging. We expect this to happen after May 17th.
