You can register in WakeLearns for one session or multiple sessions--whatever meets your needs. Digital Learning and Libraries will provide funding for sub coverage when you attend a WakeForward PLC.

🎉Congratulations to our 2022-2023 School Library Media Coordinator of the Year Finalists!

Digital Learning and Libraries is pleased to announce the following librarians were named finalists for 2022-2023 WCPSS School Library Media Coordinator of the Year:

  • Elementary - Stephanie Fiedler, Davis Drive Elementary

  • Middle - Pete Caggia, Salem Middle School

  • High - Angel Smith, North Wake College and Career Academy

See photos in the WakeConnect article. The finalists will be recognized and the ultimate award winner will be announced during “A Celebration of Teaching Excellence” on March 23, 2023. We’re excited to highlight their exemplary work!

Overdue Notices - Reminder to review your notices

  • The Help Desk continues to receive tickets and calls from parents that have received Overdue Notices that include Resources (Chromebooks; Hotspots; SPED devices; iPads from Pre-K). It is important to review your overdue notice reports and email notices to ensure they do not include any devices. The most important option to un-check is “Also Include The materials my patrons have and/or the fines they owe that belong to other sites in the district”. A more detailed tip sheet on how to run overdue notices can be found on the Library Media Services Site under Destiny Library Manager. If you have any questions or need assistance please contact Stacy Symes, ssymes@wcpss.net

Additional Patron Emails in Destiny

Destiny has been updated to reflect up to five emails for patrons. The number of active emails for a patron is dependent on how many emails are listed in PowerSchool; it varies by student. If you would like to include the additional emails on communications to families, the additional email boxes will need to be checked on your report set up page. If you have any questions or need assistance please contact Stacy, ssymes@wcpss.net

School Library Media Coordinator PLCs

Our goal is to support all school librarians in connecting with a PLC in which they can form supportive professional relationships, engage in collective inquiry, and reflect on their practice.

If you’ve not yet connected with a professional learning community of school librarian colleagues, consider doing so! A list of PLCs running throughout the district can be found on the PLC page on the Library Media Services site. Note that the page has been updated to include new PLC opportunities, including a PLC for Media Assistants.

Convergence Recap

Thank you to everyone who presented at and attended Convergence! Remember to complete the survey in WakeLearns to earn credit for participating. If you want to see information from sessions you were unable to attend, you’ll find the link to presenters’ slides in each session description in SCHED.

Elementary Library Sample Lesson Plan Bank

We continue to add new content to the Elementary Library Sample Lesson Plan Bank. Check it out!

Check out the Canvas Skills Checklist!

Not sure where to start when using Canvas? The Canvas Skills checklist allows you to self-assess your Canvas skills and determine your learning pathway.

For each component, there is a list of skills that link to quick tutorials. Rate your understanding of each skill. Use the tutorials to fill in gaps in your understanding, or enroll in a course to deepen your learning.

Clicking this link will create a copy of the Canvas Skills checklist in your Google Drive: Canvas Skills Checklist.

For more support with Canvas, check out Canvas Learning Opportunities on WakeConnect.

Chromebook Chargers

Make sure you’ve read the new policy for Chromebook chargers.

Please note these two statements in the FAQs of the announcement:

We understand that school admin or bookkeepers may request this action. However, it is not the best method for keeping records of replacement chargers issued. Once a charger is provided to a student, it will not circulate. Schools will not collect them back from students separately from the students’ Chromebook. Therefore, there is no reason to catalog chargers separately in Destiny. Please help keep our district records clean by refraining from this practice. If you have any questions, a HelpDesk ticket will get your query to the right person on the Device Management Team.
