Celebrating School Library Month!
WCPSS is celebrating School Library Month this April by inviting everyone to shout-out the excellent work happening in school libraries across our district. Follow and use the hashtag #WCPSSLovesOurLibraries to highlight our programs. Also be sure to check WakeConnect for feature articles throughout the month!
WCPSS Library Media Services Year-End Report
Please complete the WCPSS Library Media Services Year-End Report. This report is due on June 10th for Traditional and Modified Calendars and June 17th for Year-Round.
Library Media Services will compile the data gathered from this report and present it as part of our opening meeting content at the start of next school year. Aggregated data may be helpful to you, your MTAC, and/or school administration depending on objectives and discussions.
Questions? See NC DLMI section for “report support” office hours with Stacy.

The DLMI has been heavily revised and will be released some time in May. DPI’s Digital Teaching and Learning team will host DLMI Overview Webinars (see below) and are appropriate for any district or school level staff responsible for any portion of the DLMI. Sessions will be recorded.

Library Inventory
As a reminder, Library Media Services does not mandate a year-end inventory. You may choose to conduct an inventory at any time during the school year. Regular circulation can continue while running an inventory. In addition, it is not necessary to inventory the entire collection all at once. You can choose to only inventory a subset of the collection. It's most important to conduct an inventory when you think there are a significant number of materials that are unaccounted for (the Destiny catalog shows them as "Available" but they cannot be found on the shelf), or a significant number of students report that they have returned materials that still show up as checked out on their account.
The easiest way to delete Lost copies from your collection is through finalizing an inventory.
You can find directions for completing a library inventory on the Destiny page on the Library Media Services site.
Collecting Library Books
You should consult with your administration and your MTAC to determine what policy is best for your school.
Some schools choose to allow students to circulate books over the summer. There is no policy that states you must collect all books for the end of the year.
If your admin and MTAC determine it is best to collect all books for the end of year, Library Media Services recommends stopping circulation no sooner than 2 weeks before the last day of school, with all books due 1 week before the last day of school. This will give you an additional week to round up books from stragglers.
ESSER Replacement Book Orders
Mackin has begun shipping the ESSER Replacement Library book orders. Some of the orders may come in more than one shipment. As orders begin arriving, it is very important that the order is checked in quickly and the packing slip sent to Library Media Services - not your school bookkeeper. The packing slip can be scanned and emailed to Stacy - ssymes@wcpss.net or the originals can be placed in courier.
The MARC records are sent in the shipment email. You will need to download the file and save on your computer. To upload in Destiny:
Back Office
Catalog > Import Titles
Choose File (Choose the MARC records file that was saved to your computer)
Import
If you have any questions or need assistance with checking in the order or uploading the MARC records, please reach out to Stacy (ssymes or 919-694-0279).
