Another integral component of our magnet theme is World Languages. Students will have the exciting opportunity to learn a new language! They can choose to learn Spanish or French.
Our dedicated World Language teachers create engaging activities where students develop fluency and explore diverse cultures. These classes cultivate growth mindsets and foster a profound appreciation for linguistic and cultural diversity.
World Languages at DDMES
Grades K–2: Students are introduced to Spanish or French with the same teacher each year, building strong relationships and early exposure to the language.
Grades 3–5: Students are placed in Spanish or French classes at their proficiency level — Novice Low, Novice Mid, or Novice High. This differentiation allows lessons to be tailored to each learner’s skills, ensuring that every student can grow and excel in their language learning.
Learning a world language at an early age helps students become confident communicators and global citizens. It builds cultural awareness, strengthens problem-solving skills, and prepares students to thrive in an interconnected world.
Students in the Spanish Immersion program do not attend the World Language classes.
