Questions stems you can use at home to promote deeper thinking:
- How did you approach this problem? Why did you choose to approach it that way?
- What strategy did you use? Why did you choose that strategy over other strategies? Will that strategy always work?
- How are these strategies similar and different?
- How do you know your answer is reasonable/makes sense?
- What patterns/trends do you notice? Why are these patterns occuring?
- Are there other possibilities? Why or why not?
- Where have you seen something like this before? What connections can you make to this type of a problem?
- Where is your mistake? What was the mistake you made? What was your misunderstanding? What do you know now?
