KES School Counseling Program Vision Statement:
The comprehensive school counseling program of Knightdale Elementary School envisions an environment that is culturally sensitive, collaborative, welcoming and safe in order to prepare students to be socially and emotionally successful in an ever changing, diverse, challenging 21st century world.
Throughout the school year we facilitate several small groups based on need. Typically, these groups are scheduled for
4-6 weeks with no more than 6 in a group usually from the same grade level. We typically meet once a week for 30 minutes. We work with teachers to schedule a time that works best for that student. Topics include, but are not limited to:
*Emotion Management (stress, anxiety, anger)
*Family Change
*Social Skills
*Friendship
*Study Skills
*Appropriate School Behavior
Individual counseling is provided to students on a short-term basis based on specific needs. Students are seen by the counselor when:
*Parents request and indicate a need and desire that the counselor meet with their children
*Students request counseling
*Teachers, administrators or other school staff refer the student
In addition to individual and group counseling, we also reach students through classroom lessons. We will cover topics including (but not limited to): bullying, feelings, friendship, stress management, test prep, conflict resolution, and middle school transition (for 5th).
We are available to meet with parents individually and/or at parent/teacher conferences. Parents can call or email to set up an appointment. We are always happy to help in any way we can, so please do not hesitate to ask!
