To aid in planning for next year, the Media Technology Advisory Committee (MTAC) is creating a survey on Google Forms for each staff member to complete. The survey addresses areas such as classroom technology, account access, technology used with students, collaborative spaces, Learning Commons resources, Literacy Week, and professional learning. Staff members will also have opportunities to provide free-form responses so we are able to gather as much feedback as possible. These responses will inform our technology plan as well as some Learning Commons documents, such as the collection management plan. Using quantitative data such as inventory numbers and qualitative responses from teachers and other staff, we will be able to develop a comprehensive plan to meet the needs of our students and staff. Because the survey contains sensitive information and is still undergoing changes, I have included only a screenshot of the opening section.
Responses from last year's survey helped inform some of our changes for this year. For example, upon learning that 32.6% of respondents thought they needed training on Google Drive, we worked to integrate that into our Google Tools training this year.
This is an image of the MTAC survey draft for this year. Last year's survey had a low response rate, so we are planning to send this out earlier (at the end of third quarter) to avoid the end-of-year rush and to encourage teachers to respond.
Based on the results of this question, we have worked to reach out to teachers and encourage more to bring their classes to the Learning Commons. We are booked with at least one class nearly every period, every day, and we anticipate that more teachers will answer this question positively this year.
As with the previous question, we have worked to encourage more use of the Learning Commons as a resource. We have also reached out during MTAC and Professional Learning Team meetings to identify unmet needs in the eyes of subject area teachers.
This is a sample of the answers to this open-response question on the last MTAC survey. Based on these answers, we have made a conscious effort to increase the diversity of our collection through both direct purchases and our Junior Library Guild membership. We have added Spanish-language novels, "own voice" novels by people of color, and other multi-cultural resources. Examples include Dear Martin, American Street, Long Way Down, and Yaqui Delgado quiere darte una paliza.
