KHSCD is one of the only WCPSS high schools to hold an annual Literacy Week. Since 2018, this event has been researched, planned, and run by our Library Media Studies students under the guidance of the two librarians. Events for the 2019 Literacy Week included a field trip to read to three elementary schools, a visit to Hunt Library at NC State University, a bookfair in partnership with Quail Ridge books, classroom read-alouds at KHSCD, Tap Out of Tech Tuesday, where students could charge their cell phones while reading on the "beach" in the LC, and a poetry slam along with other daily events, such as DEAR time and our Book Madness tournament. To kick things off, we had a visit from Divergent author Veronica Roth the week before!
