In support of Wake County Public School's focus on progressive learning environments that "strategically integrate digital and physical resources, and emerging technologies, to support innovative learning regardless of location or age of facility," I worked with four other Google Certified Educator Level 2 teachers to create a whole-staff professional development opportunity. We began with a team-based scavenger hunt where teachers worked together to complete a series of fun tasks using Google Tools. We awarded prizes to the top three teams, and the experience gave participants a chance to explore tools and choose a session for the afternoon.
Of 81 participants, 18 (22%) attended my session, Beyond PowerPoint: Google Tools for PBL Products. I shared tricks and tips on using five Google Tools: Slides, YouTube, Screencastify, Drawings, and My Maps and led brainstorming on how these could be used in their classrooms for project-based learning. Following the 45-minute session, teachers had an hour of work time with me there for support. Teachers overwhelmingly indicated that they would put what they learned to use.
