What did I learn with the knowledge/experiences gained from my project?
I learned how to have better communication with others and how to properly plant seeds. After the co-op 101 meeting my family and I planted some tomatoes and they've been doing great. Volunteering for them at the black farmers market, I learned how to summarize and keep people engaged while educating them about a specific topic.
How did this experience change lifestyle choices I may make in the future?
This experience has made me more confident with planting my own seeds and communicating with others. I may decide to make my own farm or business in the future.
How would I motivate others to become involved in civic engagement for the future?
I would motivate others by explaining how much they could gain from being civically engaged. There's so much to learn and experience just by being involved with the world around you.
Are there any activities or parts of this activity I WISH you had attempted or completed? Why could/should you have done different/better?
I wish I had started my civic engagement earlier with this program in order to document more about this program and its benefits for the community. It was really fun to come out and be involved because they taught me many life skills such as farming, marketing, and communication. I also wish I took more pictures and videos to show.
If there is one piece of advice I would give to next semester’s/year’s students about how to plan or complete this project, what would it be?
I would advise them to do something they're actually interested in and to have fun with the project. Ask adults for ideas (including Mrs. Thrower) because they'll most likely know of a couple people or opportunities for you to get civically engaged. The project shouldn't be really difficult as long as you have good time management, ask questions, and follow instructions.
