I attended a co-op 101 meeting hosted by Fertile Grounds on the last Saturday in April which explained a bit more about what they are, what they're trying to do and why. I learned that the new grocery store will be built off of Garner Road where fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers will be sold. One of these local farmers taught us how to plant seeds and gave us some plants to take home. I recorded a few videos on the live demonstration they gave for them to share online.
The next day I volunteered for Fertile Grounds at the black farmers market by handing out flyers and telling people a little bit about the food co-op. Many people were excited and interested in the new grocery store to come.
I still plan to be engaged with this food co-op and donate money to them, attend their meetings, and volunteer when I can. I am really excited to see this store built in the next few years and how it will impact the community.
