September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Awareness Day
September is National Suicide Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness about mental health, recognize warning signs, reduce stigma, and remind one another that help is available, and no one has to face difficult moments alone.
This year’s message is “Stronger Together: Connect. Support. Prevent.” We can all help by building strong connections and creating a school community where students feel safe asking for help and supporting one another.
Thursday, September 10, is World Suicide Prevention Day. This year’s theme, “Changing the Narrative on Suicide,” encourages us to Start the Conversation by replacing silence and stigma with compassion, understanding, and support. On September 10, students and staff are encouraged to wear purple or teal to raise awareness and show our commitment to looking for one another.
Remember: You are not alone. It is okay to ask for help, and reaching out can make a difference.
Human Trafficking Lessons
📚 Holly Grove Middle School | Trafficking Prevention & Safety Lessons starting September 2026
The Holly Grove Middle School Student Services Team will deliver classroom guidance lessons on Trafficking Prevention and Safety to our 7th and 8th grade students as mandated by NC Senate Bill 297. Lesson objectives vary by grade level, as outlined below.

Grade 7: 7.ICR.3.3 – Recognize that sexual harassment may contribute to sexual abuse, sexual assault, and sex trafficking and the feelings that result from these behaviors.
Grade 8: 8.ICR.1.2 – Identify the reasons that people engage in violent behaviors (bullying, hazing, dating violence, sexual assault, family violence, verbal abuse, and sex trafficking) and resources for seeking help.
🛡️ Our goal is to provide students with age-appropriate information and resources to help them recognize unsafe situations, make informed decisions, and know where to seek help and support.

Signs Of Suicide Lessons
📢 Signs of Suicide Announcement of Lesson starting September 2026
Holly Grove Middle School Student Services team will deliver the SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program to 7th grade students as a part of the NC Essential Standards (Mental and Emotional Health). SOS is an award-winning, nationally recognized program designed for middle and high school-age students. The program teaches students how to identify the symptoms of depression and suicidality in themselves or their friends, and encourages help-seeking through the use of the ACT®technique (Acknowledge, Care, Tell).
🎯SOS lessons aims:
To help students understand that depression is a treatable illness.
To explain that suicide is a preventable tragedy that often occurs as a result of untreated depression.
To train students in how to identify serious depression and potential suicidal thoughts in a friend.
To impress upon teens that they can help themselves or a friend by taking the simple step of talking to a responsible adult about their concerns.

Say Some
💙 Say Something: Student Safety Lesson starting July 2026
The Holly Grove Middle School Student Services Team will be delivering the Say Something lesson to students as part of our commitment to promoting student safety and well-being. 🏫
Through this lesson, students will learn how to recognize warning signs, look out for one another, and speak up when they are concerned about someone’s safety or well-being. Students will also learn how to report concerns and identify trusted adults and resources who can provide help and support.
💡 Remember: If you see something, say something. Speaking up can help keep someone safe.

Protecting Our Students Lesson
📢 Student Safety & Well-Being Announcement starting July 2026
As part of our commitment to student safety and well-being, all middle and high schools in the Wake County Public School System are required to show the Protecting Our Students videos to students in grades 6–12 during the school year. A state law passed in 2023 requires that all public school students in grades 6–12 view these videos.
These age-appropriate videos were developed by the Center for Safer Schools in collaboration with Capitol Broadcasting Company. They are designed to educate students about inappropriate behavior and adult misconduct in school settings, help students learn skills to stay safe, and identify trusted adults they can turn to for help. Our goal is to empower students with knowledge while approaching this important and sensitive topic with care and respect.
🎯 After watching the video, students will be able to:
Recognize what inappropriate behavior by an adult is and what it might look like if it is happening to them or someone they know
Learn and practice healthy behaviors and skills to stay safe
Identify a trusted adult they can go to for help
