What to expect:

Students will learn about Stress, Anxiety, coping mechanisms, and develop time management skills. Students will learn the warning signs of self harm, and depression so that they may be able to get themselves the necessary help, or get help for someone else who is suffering.

Standards Covered:

8.MEH.1- Create positive stress management strategies

8.MEH.3- Apply help-seeking strategies for depression and mental disorders

8.PCH.1- Understand wellness, disease prevention, and recognition of symptoms

8.PCH.4- Analyze necessary steps to prevent and respond to unintentional injury

8.NPA.3- Analyze the relationship of nutrition, fitness, and healthy weight management to the prevention of diseases such as diabetes, obesity, CVD, and eating disorders


Essential Questions:

-What are positive stress management strategies that you use?

-Where can a person go for help if they or someone they know are experience signs of mental illness?

-Are there environmental and behavioral risk factors that lead to CVD, diabetes, cancer, and other chronic disease? What are they?

-How does the media influence exercise, diet, and self-esteem?

-Is an eating solely related to a lack of desire consume food? Why or Why not?

-What are the steps associated with performing hands only CPR and the Heimlich maneuver?
