Even though the coronavirus has made it impossible for us to be together, your education must continue...

Part 1 Work on the first elements End of Unit 2 Project. You have been assigned a chapter between 9 and 16, 17 in A Mighty Long Way.

Here is a copy of A Mighty Long Way, just in case you misplaced your copy.

  • Complete step 1 - taking two column notes on significant events (this looks like what we did for Inside Out and Back Again. Column one is the page number, and column two is an important quote with explanation. Complete the workbook pages for the chapter you were assigned.
  • Complete step 2- Write a summary of your chapter using the workbook pages and your two column notes. Try to incorporate several vocabulary words from your chapter into your summary.... see the green sheet for the vocabulary for your chapter.
  • If you need something to read and keep yourself busy, read the whole book. This will help you understand the context of not only your chapter, but the whole of Carlotta's story. It will help you understand her quest and her determination to graduation from Central High. Her determination is legendary.

Part 2 .Little Rock Girl Reading and workbook pages with gist and focus question.

  • chapter 3 p. 28-37 and answer questions on p. 83
  • Chapter 4 p. 38-55 and answer questions on p. 92

These assignments will allow us to proceed with this unit project when you return.

Here is a link to the Afridan American History Museum. This museum has some artifacts from Carlotta Walls.

If you enter Central HIgh School LIttle Rock, you can see Carlotta's report card, diploma and that famous dress we have seen in many of the photos. This is a fascinating site. You can see photos, documents and even hear some interviews.
