GHHS Student Council Campaigning Rules
Each candidate may have up to three posters on poster board. No posters can be bigger than the size of a normal poster board.
Posters need to arrive in Mr. Dusablon’s room (2308) before first period to get approved on May 13th. They will be ready to be hung during lunch. If any poster is hung without an adviser approval and initial in the corner, it will be taken down.
Posters can ONLY be hung in the cafeteria and the stairwells. DO NOT HANG POSTERS ON DRYWALL!
No balloons or items that can cause a distraction can be put on posters…too much weight makes them fall anyway.
Poster putty, Gorilla Tape, and Command Strips are the only proven adhesives to work so far.
No favors like candy or food can be handed out. No pamphlets or stickers, buttons, pencils, wristbands, and wearing T-Shirts. NOTHING MAY BE PASSED OUT.
Positive campaign tactics ONLY! Social media IS allowed…but be careful (full list of social media guidelines are in the second half of this list)!
No parents!
All posters must be removed from walls by the end of day on Friday, May 17th!
Social Media Campaigning Rules
Candidates can use social media for their campaigns. In social media posts, candidates may only refer to themselves and their own platforms. Candidates are the only ones allowed in pictures/posts. Your campaign can not mock any other form of advertising or campaigns known by the public (i.e. using famous lines or slogans of celebrities or past/current politicians, quoting lyrics or advertisements, etc.). Your social media campaign must be entirely yours and entirely authentic.
Candidates may not seek, post, or retweet endorsements regarding their campaigns whether they are from current GHHS students/staff, former GHHS students/staff, or individuals/organizations not affiliated with GHHS. Videos and/or endorsements created by others about the candidate are NOT the candidate referring to himself/herself. Retweets and reposts of such videos and/or endorsements are NOT the candidate referring to himself/herself. Endorsements create an unequal playing field. Campaigns must be about what the candidates can do for GHHS, what their goals are for GHHS, and/or what they plan to accomplish in office if elected. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in dismissal from the election.
While candidates cannot control what others post on social media, the candidates should not retweet or repost anything onto their own social media pages. Nor should the candidates comment on the posts of others. Likes are fine. Comments are not. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in dismissal from the election.
Candidates are prohibited from making any promises/claims that they cannot actually fulfill (ex: changing the school schedule, changing the school times, changing the lunch times). Such practices by the candidate or anyone affiliated with the candidate or working in the name of the candidate will result in removal of the candidate from the election process.
Candidates must campaign individually. There cannot be multi-candidate social media posts. The candidate must be the only one featured in the post. Candidates may not appear with any other candidate in a way to suggest “running mates” or “voting blocks.” Failure to follow these guidelines may result in dismissal from the election.
Candidates may not use any social media tool that must be purchased (filters).
Candidates may not distribute promotional or campaign favors. Candy, pencils, stickers, money, and other items may not be used for campaigning purposes. This is an effort to maintain an equal playing field for all candidates during the campaign. Distribution of such items will result in dismissal from the election.
No negative campaigning will be tolerated. Any negative campaigning will result in removal from the election process.
Failure to follow these guidelines may result in removal from the election.
