Front Office Procedures
At FVMS we value instructional time and make every effort to avoid unnecessary interruptions. To help us protect our instructional time we ask that parents and students abide by the following guidelines:
A. Please communicate with your child each day to ensure that after school plans are made before school.
B. Telephone messages for students should be limited to emergencies only.
C. Please have students bring all items needed for the school day (lunch money, homework, PE clothing, etc.) to school with them. We ask that you do not drop items off to be picked up by students. If you must drop an item off, school personnel will put it on a designated table in the main office. From this point, it is the students’ responsibility to check in the front office if they have forgotten something. We will not call children out of class for non-emergency situations and will use professional judgment to categorize something as an emergency. Students are not permitted to order outside food delivery.
D. Please understand that our cafeteria does not allow food from outside vendors as we do not want to interrupt classroom instruction to notify students that they have lunch or money waiting (since lunch will be provided for free for 2021-2022). We ask that parents and guardians wishing to eat lunch with their child sign in at the front office upon arrival to get a visitor’s pass. If a student does have food from an outside vendor, that student will be asked to eat in a location away from the cafeteria.
Restroom Use
Students are encouraged to use the restroom during their scheduled class restroom break. Students are not permitted to use the restroom during class transition, as each class has a scheduled time. Students are asked to follow the teacher's procedures for using the restroom (such signing out, uses the pass); however, if a student requests to use the restroom for an emergency, they will be permitted. If restroom usage becomes a concern due to frequency or abuse, parents may be contacted. If a medical condition prohibits your student from following this guideline, please notify the counselor in writing. Writing on bathroom walls and/or stalls is vandalism and a violation of the student code of conduct.
Money Collection
Throughout the year students may turn in money for field trips, book fines, lost locks, fundraisers and other school-related activities. Whenever possible, we encourage students not to bring large amounts of money. Checks are no longer accepted; cash only. In many instances, payments may be submitted online, as with the cafeteria or team fieldtrips. Check with the coordinator collecting money (cafeteria, teacher, club advisor, etc.) for more information about paying online. Students who have school debts may be excluded from certain school activities.
PRIVACY
From time-to-time, your child may be photographed or video-recorded for a variety of purposes, from providing our school website with an image of students engaged in their education to sharing images with local news media about our community involvement and volunteer work. If you do not want your child photographed and/or video-recorded, please print send in a written statement of your wishes to the guidance department.
