I know most teachers do not give out their phone number. I always have. I trust that if you think something is important enough to call me at home, then it is important enough for me to answer. Please don't call after 10pm.
The hardest question I ever get asked is, "Where are you from?". My father was in the Air Force, and we moved every couple of years. I was born in California, but we moved to North Carolina 7 days later. I had my 1st Birthday in Alabama. By the time I graduated from High School I lived in 11 different cities, 8 states, and 3 countries.
In the United States I lived in California, North Carolina, Alabama, Colorado, Louisiana, Arizona, Nevada, and Virginia.
Sophomore & Junior years of High School were in Izmir, Turkey.
Senior year of High School was in Seoul, Korea.
After High School I went to the Virginia Military Instiute as an Electrical Engineering student on an Air Force ROTC scholarship. After 4 years I was 10 credits short of graduating and took a year off. During that time I had many "interesting" jobs including janitor, dish washer, hotel house keeping, and manager of a retail store. Around this time the 1st Gulf War was about to start because Sadam Huesein invaded Kuwait and began forming his Army on the border of Saudi Arabia. So...... I enlisted in the Marine Corps and went to the infantry.
This is me when I graduated from Marine Corps boot camp in 1992. I was in 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines and left at the rank of Corporal. During my time in the Marine Corps, I met and married the love of my life and my first son, Austin, was born.
When I left the Marine Corps I used my GI Bill to go to NC State to finish my degree in Computer Engineering. My second son, Daniel, was born during my final exams before graduation. I then worked for Mitsubishi Electronics in RTP as an ASIC Applications Engineer. I worked with major telecommunications and internet hardware companies to make the specialized computer chips that make the internet work.
In 2002 I decided to move to teaching. At the time there was a lot in the news about how more than one third of all students in Wake County did not graduate High School. I wanted to help make a change and reduce the drop out rate. I thought the best chance to make a difference would be to teach in the middle schools helping to form the foundation of learning that students would need to get through high school. I have taught at Durant Road Middle School, East Garner Middle School, and I have been at East Millbrook since 2008. My 3rd, and last son, Alex, was born in 2008.
