Cast Auditions and Crew Interview Information

Parent Meeting November 17, 2021

All ECMMS scholars in good academic and behavioral standing are invited to audition for cast or interview for the crew.

Before Auditioning and/or Interviewing:

  1. Carefully read and submit the online Audition/Interview Registration form by December 1 by 10:00 pm:

https://forms.gle/8bF3AevypNyCaCDB6

  1. Sign up for a 12/10 or 12/13 cast audition/crew interview time slot in the auditorium lobby. You only need to sign up for a one-time slot if you are trying out for both cast and crew.

  1. Audition Clinic on 12/1 from 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm: Do you want to know what to focus on for your audition? Need tips to showcase your gifts and talents? Want to feel more comfortable when you take the stage? Come to the Audition Clinic to learn some tips and tricks.

Prepare and Attend Your CAST Audition:

  1. Prepare the following choreography routine. You will perform it on stage with a small group of peers with music.

  1. Prepare one of the audition monologues (see link below). You will perform it on stage without a microphone.

  1. Choose a song that you sing with confidence (one that showcases your voice) and prepare to sing it for the audition. Bring a copy of the sheet music (preferred) or lyrics to the audition with you. You will sing acapella (without accompaniment or background music) on stage without a microphone. You may request a starting note.

  1. Arrive 15-20 minutes before your audition time. Report to the drama room, where you will 1) receive your number and 2) warm-up and sing a short vocal exercise. Proceed with your audition group to the auditorium. You will perform the choreography routine as a group and individually perform your prepared song and memorized monologue on stage for the audition committee.

Prepare and Attend Your CREW Interview:

  1. Consider why you think you would make a great crew member, and be prepared to tell us!

  1. Arrive 15 minutes before your interview time. Report to the drama room, where you will receive your number. Proceed with your group to the auditorium, where you will answer 2-3 interview questions.

Receive Results:

An interview or audition does not guarantee a part in the production. All audition/interview results will be posted on Friday, 12/17 @ 3:00 pm on the auditorium door.

Donation Needed:

Should you be selected as the cast or crew for Shrek Jr., please donate $60 to East Cary Magnet Middle School with “Drama Department” in the memo line. This donation will be used to purchase a cast/crew t-shirt, personal video of the production, professional headshots that will be taken for the playbill, costume fittings, materials to build the set and props, etc. Needs-based scholarships are available for those unable to donate $60 toward the production. Please contact Mrs. Bridges should you have a need - finances should not be a deterrent for an audition or interview.

Expectations:

To produce an incredible show and help each student have a positive experience, we need to work together! Students are expected to:

  • Attend the entirety of all scheduled rehearsals and performances, except by prior arrangements for non-mandatory rehearsals (max three permitted).

  • Send an email to kbridges2@wcpss.net immediately if you must miss a rehearsal due to an emergency or illness.

  • Remain in good academic and behavioral standing at school.

Parent Commitment:

As Parent/Guardian of a cast or crew member, you play a significant role in making our production of Shrek Jr. At our first cast and crew parent/guardian meeting on January 3 at 6 pm; we will have several committees and subcommittees available for you to choose from. Although the students will be running the show, creating the props, and building the set, we will need your help in safety, supervision, and organization. Examples of possible committees/subcommittees are: costume manager, costume designer(s), props lead, set designers, set builder(s), stage parent, makeup designer, hair/makeup artist, cast & crew party organizer, etc. We will have some opportunities for things that can be done from home and some hands-on. This will be a fantastic experience for everyone to enjoy, and we need your help to make this happen.

Communication:

All Shrek Jr. communications, including any questions, concerns, or possible rehearsal conflicts should be sent to kbridges2@wcpss.net
