Mrs. Bridges
Mrs. Bridges
Welcome to East Cary Magnet's Drama Department! Katy Bridges is your 2021-2022 Theatre Teacher and Director. She lives in Apex, North Carolina with her husband and two fur kids. She enjoys singing, spending time with friends, being outdoors, and boating with her husband, Tripp.
In 1995, Bridges competed in voice and musical theatre. As a child, she was interested in performing. Bridges sang in the choir at school, played the piano, and played the string bass. She had the opportunity to attend the Performing Arts Magnet program at Robert E. Lee High School in Huntsville, AL. While under the tutelage of James Smith at Peace College, Bridges continued performing and had the opportunity to go on tour as a mezzo-soprano soloist in 2001. Il Duomo and Saint Mark’s Cathedral in Italy were a few of the venues where she performed. Since then she has sung various oratorio works in Europe and the United States. During the summers of 2017-2019, Horizons Atlanta at Kennesaw State University in Georgia commissioned her to direct their theatre department. Apex Friendship Middle School in Apex, North Carolina hired Bridges to lead their debut production of Alice in Wonderland.
She loves inspiring students to "believe and succeed," a quote that was on her wall as a child and one that has stuck with her. "When you raise the bar, it will be met", says Bridges. She believes in her students, and because of that, her students believe in themselves.
Katy Bridges has a bachelor's degree in Music Performance from Peace College in Raleigh, North Carolina, a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina, and a master's degree in School Administration from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Currently, Bridges is taking classes at Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia to obtain a master's degree in theatre.
Bridges taught in the general education classroom for ten years before taking her talents to the drama classroom. In 2017, she returned to her passion for the arts and performing.
