Wake County schools developed and support the research model eWISE.

This model describes the habits and behaviors exhibited when conducting research:

• evaluate: an ongoing part of the process that occurs at each step

• wonder: activate thinking, generate curiosity, build background information, develop questions

• investigate: construct meaning from text, graphics, multimedia; manage the search process; record information in own words

• synthesize: build meaning, connect ideas, identify relationships, draw conclusions

• express: communicate new knowledge, create, construct, invent
