Over the course of the 2018-19 academic year, Stephanie will attend at least one of the WakeForward Data & Privacy PLT training session offered through ITLMS. She will learn about the WCPSS Data & Privacy resources available to her. She should leave the session with ideas for lesson plans for the students, as well as ideas for professional development.
On January 9, 2019, I attended a WakeForward Data & Privacy PLT training session offered through ITLMS. I left the session with several excellent resources and a clearer vision of how I wanted to share this important information with my students and staff.
However, I also realized that it was a much bigger undertaking than I had originally thought. Initially, I pictured utilizing all of the resources available to me this school year, but learning about the scope of the project in January, I realized that this would likely have to be at least a two year project. I already had most of the media lessons for the rest of the year mapped out, so finding time in the this year's schedule was difficult
I realized that I needed to begin curating all of the digital resources in one place for easier access for our teachers and staff. I created a Data & Privacy page on our media center website. I then began to do a deep dive to learn more about the resources. While exploring the lesson plan resources, I realized that there was potential for overlap with our Technology Coordinator's curriculum. Cori Odom and I scheduled time to collaborate to make sure that our lessons were reinforcing each other's, not repeating them. As a result, I learned that she often uses lessons form Common Sense Media so we agreed that I would teach lessons from Google's, Be Internet Awesome.
For my K-2 classes, I taught a unit on the NC Children's Book Award nominee, Nerdy Birdy Tweets. After reading and discussing the book, the students logged into their Media Google Classrooms. First, they watched the video, Follow the Digital Trail. and then they completed a Google form asking them to define what a, "digital footprint" is. Based on their responses, we created a word cloud poster that now hangs in our media center Chromebook lab, as well as on our Student Projects page on the media center website.

She will learn about the WCPSS Copyright & Fair Use resources available to her. She should leave the session with ideas for lesson plans for the students, as well as ideas for professional development. She should begin implementing those ideas this academic year.
